About the challenge

Mathematics for systems security is a hackathon that brings together aspiring cryptographers to create mathematical algorithm that guarantee secret encryption or secret sharing. All algorithms will be tested to see security and will grant a point if the algorithm covers most vulnerabilities. Participants will choose one of the two tracks:

Get started

To get started there are two tracks:

- Cryptographer track

- AI pipeline secret sharing track

Participants may sign up in one track only.

Requirements

What to Build

The AI pipeline secret sharing track:

- Use APIs that grant access to LLMS such as AWS bedrock or openai / gemini and are given by host providers, and guarantee secure communication with the agent by encrypting inputs to the agent while keeping the master key unknown to the agent to prevent storing of potential compromised data on the host provider's server.

The Cryptographer track:

-  Create a cryptographic algorithm that securely encrypts the master key, preventing side channel attacks. The algorithm will be rigorously tested and would be checked to see if there lingers any potential surface area for adversaries, for extra points include number theory and linear algebra.

PLEASE NOTE THAT TO GAIN AN EXTRA POINT UTILIZE LOW LEVEL LANGUAGES (E.G RUST OR C) TO MINIMIZE PERFORMANCE OVERHEAD AND VULNERABILTIY WINDOW

Participants in the ai pipeline track may use high level languages such as Python while maintaining low level execution of mathematical encryption.

What to Submit

For the Cryptographer track:

- In project submissions include clean LATEx and formatting aswell as explanations for the created algorithm and how it protects the secret aswell as the vulnerability windows that it mitigates. All included in the project's description

- To gain an extra point, utilize the algorithm in an applicable environment, however this is not necessary.

- A video uploaded via YouTube is heavily recommended.

- Participants MAY NOT use pre existing algorithms to encrypt plaintext.

For AI pipeline track:

- Include a video demonstration of the agent being fed encrypted inputs and how the input remains encrypted. (Optional but heavily recommended)

- Optional but not enforced, the participant may use FHE (Fully homomorphic encryption)

- Participants may use pre created cryptographic algorithm and secret sharing mechanisms such as SSS (Shamir's secret sharing)

- To gain a strong point on visual aesthetic, include a website hosted on the loopback machine or include a TUI (Terminal User Interface) to interact with the agent.
